Women in the Spotlight: Rhea Sam

At Mirai, we’re all about championing women in data who bring energy, purpose, and authenticity to everything they do. This week, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Rhea Sam, a data scientist, global speaker, mentor, and mentee who’s redefining what leadership looks like in tech.

From TED Talk to Data Trailblazer

Rhea’s data journey began with a TED Talk on data visualisation, a lightbulb moment that set her on a path of curiosity, experimentation, and deep learning. Today, she’s a Data Scientist at Valtech, with global experience and a track record of combining technical skill with human impact.

She’s passionate about using data for good, particularly in the areas of ethical AI, accessibility, and diversity in tech. From running workshops on unconscious bias to speaking on international panels, Rhea’s work is grounded in impact and inclusion.

Using Personal Branding to Make Tech Human

For Rhea, it’s not just about the code, it’s about the story. Through personal branding, she’s turned technical skills into something bigger: relatable stories that bridge the gap between complex data and everyday impact.

Her approach shows how powerful storytelling and soft skills can be in tech, whether it’s leading data implementation projects or speaking at events like Brummell’s Ones to Watch .

A Leader Who Learns, and Lifts Others

Rhea is a proud member of the She Does Data community, showing up both as a mentor and a mentee. She believes in learning at every level, sharing openly about the friendships, networks, and mentors who have helped her grow — and giving back in kind.

In her words, “It’s about building relationships that evolve with your career. And it starts by showing up for each other.”
